I worked in a different carrier path for many years, and later I changed to start becoming engineering manager.

The exciting part of this journey was that I wasn't alone; my cousin/almost brother

Andrés Lopez was doing exactly the same on his side.

So here are some highlights of our process and the key learning items.

  • Software engineer and Industrial Engineer are our Bachelor's degrees

  • We both have been at the top of our previous careers, Senior QA Consultant/Team Lead and Operational manager

  • Over 34 years old

  • We were looking for new challenges in our carriers.

Key Learnings

  • We have to make the decision to change carriers and accept the challenge

  • Family support, our wives played a super important role in making this happen

  • Ask for the opportunity and not wait for that to come; at some point, we weren't fully prepared for the positions; however, we asked for that, and the initiative came from us

  • Learn and study a lot!! As newbies, we needed to learn all the details about these new carriers

  • Accept that we are no longer seniors or the people with the most knowledge in the room and start taking notes, asking questions, and paying attention to other seniors in our companies

The good thing is here were are now as Engineering Manager and Product Owner in our companies, experimenting with new opportunities every day and giving our 100% to succeed

Every decision comes with its own challenges; the point is to tackle them and become good at what you have selected as the path in your life.
